Technological Development and Social Responsibility
The objective of the WPC Excellence Awards (WPCEA) is to distinguish companies, institutions or any public or private organisation (not individuals) engaged in the oil and gas industry for promoting or operating with high excellence.
Since the World Petroleum Council (WPC) was formed in 1933, it has experienced vast changes in the industry. Moving forward into the new millennium we will have new technical, environmental and social challenges ahead and the WPC's dedication to its principles "to promote the management of the world's oil and gas resources for the benefit of all" is demonstrated by these prestigious awards. By recognising partnerships between the environment, social responsibility and business, and encouraging a better understanding of the complex relationship between a clean environment, good business practice and a healthy economy, these awards, and thus their recipients, reflect the future of the industriy's achievement.
The over 60 member countries of the World Petroleum Council, representing 95% of the world's oil and gas production, are in a unique position to witness the technical achievements that allow the petroleum industry to work with greater efficiency, at lower cost and to produce a vast range of products with a care for the environment. Whether it's drilling deeper, using new analytical techniques or producing cleaner fuels our technical excellence awards will pick from the very best from upstream or downstream. Our global industry is also leading the way in a number of social and environmental areas and we will showcase the best of these initiatives in our Social Responsibility Award.
The judging panel is selected from a group of international stakeholders and industry experts and is independent of WPC. To recognise the efforts of both NOCs and large organisations as well as small to medium sized organisations, there are two winners in each category.
